INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT SCHEDULE.

Flying is the main form of transport into Mongolia; the only other way into the country is by train or an inconvenient land crossing by local minibus.

Currently, all direct international flights to Mongolia go to the capital, Ulaanbaatar. Most people fly in from Beijing, Berlin or Moscow; for organized tours there are also additional direct flights from Osaka and Seoul. Current airline schedules also allow you to fly from Ulaanbaatar to places in wider Mongolia: Irkutsk, on Lake Baikal, and Hohhot (Khokh Khot), the capital of the 'autonomous region' of Chinese Inner Mongolia.
 

Ulaanbaator's Chinggis Khaan International Airport is the only international hub. Airport located 18 km to the south-west of Ulaanbaatar. Been reconstructed in 1990, immigration and customs formalities as well as luggage delivery are very prompt. Only MIAT (Mongolian Airlines), Air China, Aeroflot and Korean Air fly to Ulaanbaatar. High winds and fog are sometimes a problem, leading to delays and cancellations. Gales blowing in from Siberia affect smaller planes used for domestic flights more so than the larger ones on international routes; but flights to Ulaanbaatar are sometimes diverted to Irkutsk (Siberia), where you could spend the night in the transit lounge (if you don't have a Russian visa) until the wind drops.
 

Possibilities to get to Mongolia from Europe by air:

• from Europe to Moscow and to Ulaanbaatar with AEROFLOT (Russian Airline)
• from Europe to Beijing with the major foreign companies and then to Ulaanbaatar with MIAT (Mongolian Airlines) or AIR CHINA (Chinese Airline)
• from Berlin (twice weekly flights) to Ulaanbaatar direct with MIAT (OM)
