Cruiser Aurora (museum on the board)

In the Nevka opposite Hotel St Petersburg is the Aurora (Avrora), a cruiser mothballed from the Russo-Japanese War. From a downstream mooring on the night of 25 October ( November 7) 1917, its crew fired a blank round from the forward gun, demoralizing the Winter Palace's defenders and marking the start of the October' Revolution. During WWII, the Russians sank it to protect it from German bombs. The cruiser has been turned into a memorial museum with the exhibits illustrating the history of the Russian Navy.
 

Now restored and painted up in awfully pretty colors, it's a museum, open from 10.30 am to 4 pm except Monday and Friday (free).
 

Visitors can see here crew's quarters, a radio room etc.
