ILMEN RESERVE
A bus route to the South Urals will give you an opportunity
to visit the first in the world reserve of stones located in the Ilmen Rocks.
The Ilmens are rich in deposits of precious blue aquamarines, bright-green beryl, red tourmalines, delicate-golden topazes. All in all there are about 145
varieties of minerals in the Ilmens and it was here that 30 types were
discovered. The reserve’s museum will give you an excellent chance to learn
the history of the discovery of these unique minerals.
The lakes are one of the mountains’ major attractions and
the pride of the South Urals Region. One of them resembling a huge “mirror”
stretches along the western side of the Ilmens, reflecting the beauty of pines
and time-treasured oak-trees that grow there. Its water is so clean and
transparent that one can see the bottom covered with pebbles and sand 12 meters
deep; such a rare and precious thing nowadays. The lake is located at the height
of 319 meters, with an area of 26.5 square kilometers. Many different species of
fish are found in the lake such as lake white-fish, roach, perch, pike,
eel-pout, and trout.
Also there are several springs in the lake. They say in the
Urals that there are many lakes in the South Urals Region but the Turgoyak lake
is the pearl among them. And you can see it yourself. The journey lasts 12 hours.
