Atsagat Datsan. Atsagat Datsan is famous by the fact that a
prominent figure in Buddhism, a spiritual Teacher of Dalai-Lama, Agvan
Dorzhiyev worked in this temple. Czarevitch Nicholas II visited Atsagat
datsan.
Today there is a wax museum in Atsagan village. The figures are the only in
Siberia, they are of Dalai-Lama XIII, Dalai- Lama XIV. It’s a typical Buryat
village. Local people can tell you about national traditions and customs of
Guchid tribe, the aborigines of Atsagan Valley. Veneration of the ghosts of
that territory, respect to the elderly people, ability to live in harmony
with nature, - this everything is typical of them.
Chivirkuysky Bay. Chivirkuysky bay is one of the reserved parts
of the Lake Baikal, to say more exactly, it’s located on the territory of
Tunkinsky National park. Locals frequently call it the Siberian Riviera.
This bay is a unique place of Baikal where the special soft microclimate was
generated. The coast of the gulf is extremely twisting with many harbors and
majestic capes with sandy beaches and magnificent fishing. Travelers are
impressed with the beauty of islands where the Baikal Seal live, wild caves
and grottoes, singing sand, hot mineral sources.
Inninsk Stone Garden. Inninsk Stone Garden is one of the wonders
of nature. It’s located in the Barguzin River Valley. Stones of different
shapes and sizes are laid in an exotic way on the territory of 5 square
kilometers.
Ivolginsky Datsan. 23 km away from Ulan-Ude, Ivolginsk Valley.
Ivolginsk valley is located in a beautiful land. Datsan is located in a
picturesque place Ivolga, at the foot of a hill, in a silent place.
Ivolginsky datsan is a center of Buddhism in Russia. It was opened in 1946
and it was the only one spiritual center in the USSR. It's a big complex
which consists of the main temple, some small temples, library,
philisophical faculty, hotel, museum. Buddhist University was open in 1991,
about 100 students, so called huvaracks, from different regions of Russia
study Buddhist philosophy and principles of tantrism here.
It’s a place where the body Buddhist monk, Pandito Hambo Lama, is kept. He
was buried 80 years ago and has been found without traces of decomposition.
The body remains in the temple and its phenomenon involves a plenty of
believers, scientists and tourists.

There is an archeological monument, Settlement of Huns, built in II-I
centuries B.C. As you know, the Huns were a conglomerate of tribes made the
first state unity in the Central Asia and reigning for centuries long. Some
settlements and huge shrines are left after them. One of the fortified
outposts built on the north border of Huns State is Nizhne-Ivolginskoye
settlement.
Monakhovo Village. Monakhovo village is located on the territory
of one of national parks of the Lake Baikal, that’s why you need a special
permission for entering. Reserves, undisturbed forests and untouched glades,
cozy bays and sandy beaches, - they will give you feeling of being so close
to the nature.
Old Believers’ Villages. Villages of old believers, so called
Simeyskiye villages, are of a specific wooden architecture. They are
Desyathnikovo, Bolshoi Kunaley, Mukhor-Tala. During the tour to a
picturesque village old believers will show you their houses that didn’t
change from the 18th century. You can see the folk performance with
representatives of old believers. You will take exquisite meals with them.
Old Believers of Transbaikalia is a bright ethnic branch of Old Believers
exiled to Siberia in XVIII century after the reform of the church, taken by
Patriarch Nikon. They were able to save their culture, unwritten songs,
religion in their primeval kind.
Posolsky Monastery. Monastery is located on the shore of the Lake
Baikal. It has a beautiful structure. The monastery is a witness of
Christianity coming in the East, it’s 300-years old and strikes you with its
splendor. It was constructed in 1652.
Tamchinsky Datsan. Tamchinsky datsan is one of the ancient
monasteries in Russia. A well known film by V. Pudovkin “Descendant of
Chingis-Hun” was shot here in 1930s.
Novoselenginsk Village. Novoselenginsk is a historical settlement
of Russian Cossacks since 1665. You’ll find a memorial of Bestuzhev and
Torson Decembrists here. A place of exile of Gannibal, a grandfather of the
greatest poet Alexander Pushkin, is here too. Novoselenginsk was a residence
of English Protestant missionaries in 19th century.
Sretensky Convent. Sretensky convent is located in Baturino
village 78 km away from Ulan-Ude. Picturesque place, surrounded with high
woody tuffets. A beautiful stone church was erected in the center of the
village at the beginning of XIX century. It was founded by exiled
Decembrists, a grave of one of them, I.F. Shimkov, is close to the church.
Suva Saxon Castle. A stone creation in Barguzin valley. Extremely
attractive for taking pictures.
Ushkani Islands. Ushkanyi Islands are the most mysterious islands
of the Lake Baikal. They are located in the middle of the lake. It's a zone
of a rigid visiting control. This trip is a possibility to see Baikal seal
at the rookery, endemic nature of the islands where forest of the northern
and southern slopes differ much from each other en 100 meters route.
